Dominique Trottein conducts Pulcinella

at the Opéra Grand Avignon

The French conductor Dominique Trottein is a great passionate of ballets and continues this season his collaboration with the Ballet de l’Opéra Grand Avignon  et  l'Orchestre Régional Avignon-Provence.

On Saturday 22 april 2017 at 20:30 at  the Opéra Grand Avignon, he will conduct Pulcinella
(Igor Stravinsky) and Le festin de l’araignée  (Albert Roussel). Choregraphies of Eric Belaud, set designs of Emmanuelle Favre,  costumes de Danièle Barraud and lightings by Philippe Grosperrin.

Pulcinella's argument rests on twenty fragments of Pergolese, more or less authentic, and on a Neapolitan manuscript of 1700: Pulcinella, a drunken drunkard, unleashes the passions and the other males want his death. After disguises, false killings, duplications, resurrections, everyone embraces and loves. With Pulcinella, Stravinsky returns to the neo-classical style, the tone, the simpler rhythm on the model of the concerto grosso.

The evening will continue with le festin de l'arraignée. In 1912, Roussel composed a shuddering ballet on the life of insects. A spider preparing to feast, looks with appetite the various insects that are caught in his canvas. The feast of the spider is a ballet-pantomime inspired by Jean-Henri Fabre's Entomological Memories.

Eclectic, Dominique Trottein is musical director of the new production of Grease in Mogador that he will conduct next season.
