Kévin Amiel is back at the Palais Garnier

Bellini's Il Pirata

Kévin Amiel  confirms this season that he is one of the most talented tenors of his generation and continues to take important roles in his repertoire. He performs, in particular, Nemorino (L'Elisir d'Amore) at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de Perles) at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Fenton (Falstaff) at the Opéra de Lille.

This December will also mark his return to the Palais Garnier stage with the role of Itulbo in Bellini's Il Pirata in a concert version with the Orchestre de l'Opéra national de Paris alongside Sondra Radvanovsky (Imogene), Michael Spyres (Gualtiero) and Ludovic Tézier (Ernesto). A rare work given in concert version for two performances, on 16 and 19 December.

Il Pirata?  It is the 13th century and a storm is raging on the island of Sicily. Gualtiero, now the chief of a band of pirates after being banished from his land by Ernesto, is in love with Imogene. She loves him too, but is being forced to marry Ernesto to save her father’s life. Vanquished by his enemy, Gualtiero is shipwrecked near the castle of his beloved. What possible issue can there be to this love triangle? With Il Pirata, first performed at La Scala Milan in 1827, the duo formed by the composer Vincenzo Bellini and Felice Romani, his librettist, produced its first real triumph.
