The tragic destiny of Anne Boleyn (1500-1536), second wife of King Henry VIII of England, beheaded for crimes she had not committed, inspired Gaetano Donizetti and his brilliant librettist Felice Romani to create a romantic masterpiece, a miracle of balance between the art of "bel canto" and the theatrical density of the characters.
Its creation in Milan in 1830 was a memorable success, even if Anna Bolena, with her formidable vocal demands, was then relatively forgotten until Maria Callas resurrected it in 1957.
After his remarkable debut as Alfredo (La Traviata) at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, tenor Kévin Amiel will play the role of Sir Hervey in Anna Bolena, which will be performed at the Opéra national de Bordeaux from 5 to 18 November 2018. He will sing alongside, among others, Marina Rebeka (title role), Ekaterina Semenchuk and Michèle Losier (Giovanna Seymour), Dimitry Ivashchenko (Enrico VIII) and Pene Pati (Lord Percy), under the musical direction of Paul Daniel and directed by Marie-Louise Bischofberger.
After singing the Governor/Judge/Grand Inquisitor in Candide at the Opéra de Marseille and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Kévin Amiel will return to Leonard Bernstein's music at the Maison de la Radio (Paris) on Thursday, 29 November 2018, this time to perform Songfest, a cycle of poems for voice and orchestra in honour of American poetry. The Orchestre National de France will be conducted by Lan Shui. This concert will be broadcast live on France Musique.
Other upcoming projects of Kévin Amiel include the roles of Marcellus and the 2nd Grave Digger (Thomas' Hamlet) at the Opéra Comique (Paris), Siebel (Gounod's Faust) at the Opéra de Marseille, Malcolm (Macbeth) at the Opéras de Limoges and Reims, and Fritz (Offenbach's La Grande Duchesse Gerolstein) at the Théâtre de l'Odéon de Marseille.
