With the Orchestre Symphonique Rhône-Alpes Auvergne (OSYRA), of which he is Music Director since 1986, Laurent Pillot will conduct Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker's Suite and Symphony No. 4 at Le Toboggan (Décines) on 10 February 2019 and at the Théâtre du Vellein (Villefontaine) on 6 April 2019.
Immortalized by the cartoon Fantasia, the Nutcracker's suite is probably Tchaikovsky's most famous work. It shares with the Symphony No. 4 this incomparable sense of melody, a mixture of poetry, power and exaltation that convinced Japanese animation director Osamu Tezuka to use the Symphony No. 4 for his film "The Legend of the Forest".
Laurent Pillot, as at every OSYRA's concert, addresses the audience so that everyone can immerse themselves in Tchaikovsky's music. By means of clear reference points, illustrated by the 75 musicians of the orchestra, the listener can thus fully benefit from the genius of this great Russian composer. Between his two concerts with OSYRA, Laurent Pillot will cross the Mediterranean sea to join the Orchestre Symphonique du Maroc (which he conducted in December 2015), this time for the concerts of the OPM International Music Competition. In its 17 years of existence, this Competition has established itself as an important moment in the musical life of Morocco and each year brings together a large and attentive audience for these young talents. This year again, the candidates will give solo recitals before being accompanied by OPM musicians under the direction of Laurent Pillot from the semi-finals on 11 Marchuntil the laureates' concert on 16 March 2019.
