At the end of May, the canadian soprano Magali Simard-Galdès is invited twice to the Festival Classica (Canada).
First of all for the opening concert with, on the program, Mozart's Great Mass in C minor of on Friday 26 May 2017 at the Basilique Sainte-Anne in Varennes.
An unfinished masterpiece by the master of Salzburg, the Great Mass in C minor is a veritable monument to the repertoire of sacred music. Written in Vienna in 1782, it is deeply inspired by the contrapuntal art of Johann Sebastian Bach. The chorus, orchestra and soloists of the New World Philharmonic Society are under the baton of Michel Brousseau.
Magali Simard-Galdès will sing then in another Oratorio on Wednesday 31 May 2017: : Théodore Dubois' Le Paradis perdu (Oratorio for choir, soloists and orchestra). Created at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in 1878, the drama-oratorio in four parts Le Paradis perdu is a great success. First heard in America on 24 and 25 June 1902 on the occasion of the jubilee of Université Laval in Quebec City, the rich original orchestral score will be lost. After an eclipse of 115 years, it recently re-emerged from the vaults of the National Library of France. This concert will allow to rediscover the great lyrical and orchestral qualities of this masterpiece inspired by the poem of John Milton, and conducted by Jean-Claude Malgoire.
Magali Simard-Galdès has also been selected to participate in the "Pinocchio" residence of the Académie du Festival international d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence on july 2017.
