Sévag Tachdjian sings at the Opéra national de Bordeaux

Mârouf and Elektra

Bass-baritone Sévag Tachdjian this spring settles down in Aquitaine, to participate in two productions of the Opéra national de Bordeaux. Thus, before embodying the preceptor of Oreste in a concert version of Elektra, by Richard Strauss, in May and  June, he sings this February the role of Ahmad, in Mârouf, savetier du Caire, opera by Henri Rabaud, under the baton of Marc Minkowski and in a staging of Jérôme Deschamps.

Without doubt one of the greatest successes of the Opéra Comique during the inter-war period and the flagship title of the Opéra national de Bordeaux at the beginning of the 20th century, Mârouf is one of the last avatars of the "turqueries" then fashionable. The score, fallen into oblivion, nevertheless shines with its comical and zany verve, served by a lively and light music of a composer that we must rediscover, Henri Rabaud.

Former member of the Cologne Opera House and then of the Opéra national du Rhin, nominated in June 2011 "Best Young Revelation" by the German opera magazine "Theater Pur", Sévag Tachdjian has since appeared  in many roles  on the stage of these two prestigious houses, as well as at the Opera de Tours (Alidoro, in La Cenerentola by Rossini), at the Opera de Saint-Etienne (the Genie de la Lampe, in Aladin by Nino Rota), at the Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne,  the Opéra de Reims and on tour (the Captain, in Don Cézar de Bazan by Massenet).
