Soprano Sara Gouzy will have a great summer in Germany.
Winner of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg 2019 singing competition, she has just participated at the 3 gala concerts given at the opening of the 29th International Festival of Rheinsberg Castle. She performed the final of der Rosenkavaliere with Anna Tscherakova and Alice Lackner.
All this as a preamble to D. Cimarosa's production of Gli Orazi e i Curiazi, in which she will play the role of Orazia in this same theatre from 19 July 2019.
Gli Orazi e i Curiazi is a tragic love story (as in Romeo and Juliet) that takes place at the beginning of the Roman period. A bloody civil war has been raging for years between the cities of Rome and Alba Longa. Between the fronts, the young lovers Horazia and Curiazio. The work, composed in 1796, is considered to be Cimarosa's most important tragic opera, mainly known for his comic operas. Roland Steinfeld has been commissioned by the Kammeroper to write a new critical edition, which will be performed for the first time in Rheinsberg. The Potsdam Chamber Academy Orchestra will be conducted by Markellos Chryssicos and the production staged by Georg Quander.
In August, Sara Gouzy will stay in Germany, this time at the Theater Naumburg. She will sing the title role of Susanna (G. Handel) under the direction of Wolfgang Katschner.
A virtuous young woman named Susanna was falsely accused of adultery by two elders in her community who were judges and who had themselves looked at her concupiscently during her bath and been turned away. The prophet Daniel confused their lies and thus exonerated Susanna.
Handel created this story - which echoes the current #metoo movement - in London in 1749 as an opera oratorio. Instead of long dacapo arias in the style of Italian opera, Handel preferred shorter, song-like pieces in his oratorio. The choral scenes, which are in no way inferior to those of Bach's Passions, structure the story. The result is a dense and incredibly emotionally colourful musical fabric.
