The french baritone Thomas Dolié will sing Thésée in Lemoyne's Phèdre on 27 et 28 april 2017 at the Théâtre de Caen (new production) and on 8, 10 et 11 june 2017 at Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord (Paris).
Through the music of Lemoyne - composer of the Court under Louis XVI - is revealed another Phaedra who also lives the ravage of desire and the pain of a possible incest. Of neoclassical inspiration, Phèdre is part of the tendency to return to the classical sources, proper to the reign of Louis XIV. From the text of Racine, Hoffmann, the librettist, has kept only the snatches. From five acts, he went on to three, while respecting the dramatic plot and nobility of the playwright's tone. The intrigue here is organized around three characters: Phèdre, Thésée et Hippolyte. The music is also composed on this narrow frame.
Co-produced with the Centre de musique romantique française, le Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venise, Phèdre is the re-discovery of one of the great masterpieces of the repertoire.
For this resurrection of Phèdre, Julien Chauvin will conduct Le Concert de la Loge and the staging will be the work of Marc Paquien.
After this production, Thomas Dolié will return to Germany this season, but this time at the Komische Oper Berlin where he will be Abramane in Rameau's Zoroastre.
