Xerse

Lille Opera House and Vienna



Xerse has been composed by Francesco Cavalli (1602-1676), and firstly payed in 1654 in Venezia. Originally with 3 acts, it has been reworked by Francesco Buti, in 1660, on the occasion of Louis 14th and Marie-Thérèse 's wedding. As intermissions, Lully has been asked to compose Ballet music. Xerse became a 5 acts opera with prologue. 

In October, in Lille, it has been staged by Guy Cassiers, Le Concert d'Astrée being conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm. Emmanuelle de Negri is Amastre (future wife of Xerse), Frédéric Caton is Aristone, and Emiliano Gonzalez Toro Eumène, one of Xerse's officers. 

After their great success in Lille Opera House, they will be in Theater an Der Wien on October 18th for a concert version.
